"I'm a NYC boy that grew up going to the Fillmore East on weekends, an old boy. I have seen my fair share of music concerts and festivals, great ones. I would often go to small smokey cafes to listen to Jazz when I wasn't at the Fillmore. I especially enjoyed the Jazz drummers because they were outstanding, always outstanding, and could typically play circles around any of the Rock musicians.
Last night at the HP Pavilion, Alex Lahey and his group put on one of the most electrifying concerts that I ever recall seeing. They came to play, have fun, and WOW the audience, and they did exactly that. Their drummer Steve Jordan, not only as good as any Jazz drummer I recall seeing, did a drum roll that went on forever and might have easily been twice as long as anything I had ever previously heard.
